# Reviewing a Tax Year with AI

> Ask an AI assistant about an Australian tax workpaper: how a figure was worked out, what's still open and which rules it relies on

> [!NOTE]
>
> The review assistant is being trialled with a small number of organisations.
> If you don't see **Review with AI** on a tax year, it isn't turned on for you yet.

## What it does

On an entity's Australian tax year, **Review with AI** opens an assistant beside
the workpaper. You can ask it things like:

* **Review this workpaper.** It lists what's still open, anything without
evidence and anything that looks unusual, grouped as needs fixing, worth
  checking and fine.
* **Why is the net capital gain this figure?** It walks through the sales,
  losses and discounts behind it.
* **What's unusual this year?**
* **Check against the legislation.** It lists the rules the workpaper relies on
that differ from the legislation, or that haven't been confirmed yet.

You can also ask about a single investment, a sale, a distribution statement, a
check or a rule.

The panel stays open while you move between the workpaper's tabs, so you can
follow an answer into the schedules. Closing it keeps the conversation until you
leave the page. **Clear conversation** starts again.

## Where its answers come from

The assistant reads the same workpaper you see: the year's figures, checks,
transactions, parcels, distributions, carried-forward balances and saved
history. It also reads the year's rules and EveryWealth's check of those rules
against the legislation (02/11/2026, covering 2025–26 and 2026–27).

Each answer lists the **sources cited** underneath: the year rule or the row of
the legislation check it relied on, with the section of the Act. A source marked
**Unverified** hasn't been confirmed against the legislation yet. A source marked
**Not found** couldn't be matched to this year's rules, so treat that point as
unverified too.

The assistant reads the **last saved** workpaper. If you have unsaved changes,
save them first for the assistant to see them.

## What it doesn't do

* **It doesn't change anything.** It explains and suggests. You make any change
  in the workpaper yourself.
* **It isn't tax advice.** The workpaper isn't final tax advice either: speak to
your tax adviser to confirm the figures, eligibility and obligations before
relying on them or lodging a return.
* **It doesn't give investment advice**, such as whether to sell an investment.
* **It never asks for a tax file number.** Don't type one into the chat.

Once a workpaper has been marked reviewed, the assistant still answers
questions about it, but only offers insight. Changing a reviewed workpaper
needs an owner or admin to reopen it first.

## Privacy

Your questions and the workpaper are sent to the AI model under a zero data
retention agreement: the provider doesn't keep them or train on them. The
conversation isn't saved in EveryWealth.
