# Claude and ChatGPT connections

> See which apps and access keys can read your EveryWealth data, choose whether an app may write, and revoke any you no longer use

## Overview

You can connect Claude or ChatGPT to EveryWealth so you can ask questions about your portfolio in plain language. By default these apps can read your data but can't change it. When you approve an app, you can choose to also let it write notes, draft allocation plans, draft report pages and tasks for you in the organisations you tick (see [Let an app write for you](#let-an-app-write-for-you)). Access keys for scripts and tools can only ever read.

Connected apps can also look up public market information through EveryWealth: share prices and price history, company news, analyst ratings, financial statements, dividends, market movers, stock screens, side-by-side comparisons and exchange rates. When they do, EveryWealth sends the market data provider only the company names, share codes, dates and currencies asked about, never your details, holdings or amounts.

Each connection, and each access key you create for scripts or tools, appears in a list called **Active connections**. You can revoke any of them at any time.

## Check where a connection goes before you approve it

When an app asks to connect, EveryWealth shows an approval screen. Above the **Approve** button, a line tells you where approving sends access, for example "Approving sends access to claude.ai". For Claude Code and other tools that run on your own computer, it says "a program on this computer" instead.

If the destination is not Claude, ChatGPT or a program on your computer, you also see a warning headed **Check where this goes**. An app can choose any name, including "Claude", so the destination is what tells you where your data goes. Only approve if you started the connection yourself and recognise the destination. Otherwise, select **Deny**.

## Approve an app after signing in

Some connections start on the EveryWealth sign-in screen instead. You sign in with your password and second factor, then agree to let the app connect. The app still can't read anything yet: when you next ask it a question, it replies with a link to approve the connection in EveryWealth.

1. Open the link while signed in to EveryWealth. You can also find the app in **Active connections**, marked **Waiting for your approval**, and select **Approve**.
2. Check the app's name and where approving sends access. EveryWealth names the app itself, so the name shown is not one the app chose.
3. Choose one organisation, or all your organisations.
4. Leave **Let it write notes, draft allocation plans, draft report pages and tasks for you** off unless you want the app to write (see below).
5. Select **Approve**, then ask the app again. If you don't recognise the app, select **Decline**.

An approval link works for 24 hours and only for you. If it has expired, ask the app to connect again.

## Let an app write for you

On the approval screen, a separate switch, **Let it write notes, draft allocation plans, draft report pages and tasks for you**, is off unless you turn it on. When it is on, tick each organisation the app may write to under **Allow writing to**. You can only tick organisations the app may also read, and you must tick at least one.

Turning this on lets the app add notes, save draft allocation plans and draft reports, and add private tasks for you in the organisations you ticked (see [What a connected app can write](#what-a-connected-app-can-write)). Even with it on, the app can't mention anyone, assign tasks to anyone else, send emails, share reports or change your active allocation plan: a draft plan changes nothing until you make it active yourself.

Some things to know:

* Writing also needs your permission when the app signs in. If you didn't allow writing there, the app can still only read. To change that, reconnect it and allow writing when asked.
* Organisations you join later are never added for writing, even if the app may read all your organisations.
* If you leave an organisation, or leave and rejoin it, the app can't write there any more.
* To change which organisations the app may write to, or to turn writing on or off, revoke the connection and approve it again.
* If you approved an app to write before draft reports and tasks were added, it can still write notes and draft allocation plans, but not reports or tasks. To allow them, revoke the connection and approve it again with writing turned on.

## What a connected app can write

An app can only write if you allowed it when it signed in and when you approved it in EveryWealth (see above). Your app also asks you before each write and shows you what it is about to save.

When allowed, an app can:

* **Write a note** in the Planning Workspace: start a new note about a topic (such as an investment, entity, ticker, document or allocation plan) or reply to a note you can already see. A new note is private to you unless you ask the app to share it with everyone in the organisation.
* **Save a draft allocation plan**: a new draft, or a new version of an existing draft. It uses your organisation's existing asset categories only, and the plan's history shows the version as written by AI. The app tells you if it adjusted your targets, for example so they add up to 100%, and how the draft compares with your current holdings.
* **Save an analysis as a draft report**: a new report pack with one page of text, charts, tables and live commentary. Only you can see it. Charts and tables always show figures worked out by EveryWealth from your live data, never numbers the app typed in. Review it under **Reports**, then share or delete it as you would any draft.
* **Add a private task for you**, with an optional due date (due by the end of that day in your organisation's timezone), linked to an investment or a note. Only you can see it, even on the shared **Planning → Tasks** board and in task counts, and only you are assigned. It sends no reminders or emails. Tasks appear in **Planning → Tasks** where that page is available to you.

A connected app never:

* Mentions anyone, or sends emails or notifications about what it writes, or changes which notes you follow.
* Changes your active allocation plan. To change your targets, the app saves a new draft, and you compare it and make it active yourself in EveryWealth. If a new version is saved while you are looking at a plan, EveryWealth won't make it active until you have reviewed the latest version.
* Activates, archives or deletes a plan, or sends one for approval.
* Creates new asset categories, edits or deletes notes, or attaches files.
* Assigns a task to anyone else, or shares or sends a report.

Each person can make up to 30 writes an hour through connected apps. EveryWealth keeps a record of every write an app makes, and of which connection made it.

## Open links from Claude or ChatGPT

Answers can include links to EveryWealth: an organisation's dashboard, an investment, a Governance document, or a statement or other file. Selecting a link opens it in EveryWealth in your browser.

* If you are not signed in, EveryWealth asks you to sign in first, then opens the link.
* If you belong to several organisations, EveryWealth switches to the organisation the link belongs to, as it does when you switch organisation yourself.
* A link to a particular page of a PDF opens the file at that page in most browsers. If you had to sign in first, select the link again to go straight to the page.
* A link only opens what you can already see in EveryWealth. If you do not have access to a document, for example because it is in a restricted collection, the link does not open it.

## See your active connections

1. Go to **Settings → Integrations**.
2. Choose **Claude** or **ChatGPT**.
3. Scroll to **Active connections**.

The list shows every connection and access key on your account, across all your organisations. Apps waiting for your approval come first; the rest are in alphabetical order by name. For each one you can see:

* Its name. An access key shows the name you gave it when you created it, or "Access key" if you left the name blank. A connected app's name is either chosen by the app itself (the list says so) or given by EveryWealth. A long name may be shortened.
* For a connected app, where it connects: the line "Via" followed by the web address it connects through (for example "Via claude.ai"), or by "app link" for an app installed on your computer, or the line "Sends access to" for an app EveryWealth names. This line is always shown in full. If it is not what you expect, revoke the connection.
* Whether it reaches one organisation or all your organisations, or, for an app waiting for approval, none yet.
* Whether you approved it to write. "Read only" means it can't change anything. "Approved to write" followed by what it may write and organisation names lists where you allowed it to write: "notes and draft allocation plans" for apps approved before draft reports and tasks were added, or "notes, draft allocation plans, draft report pages and tasks for you". The app can only write there if it also has permission to write from when it signed in. An organisation you have since left, or left and rejoined, isn't listed, because the app can no longer write there.
* When it was created, when it expires and when it was last used. For an app waiting for approval, the date by which to approve it.

## Name an access key

When you create an access key on the **Claude** settings page (under **Advanced: access keys and the Claude Code plugin**), you can give it a short name of up to 60 characters, such as "Reporting script". The name appears in **Active connections**, so you can tell your keys apart and revoke the right one. The name is optional.

## Revoke a connection or access key

1. In **Active connections**, find the connection or key.
2. Select **Revoke**.
3. Confirm by selecting **Revoke** again.

It stops working straight away. To use the app again, reconnect it from the same settings page and approve it again. For a script or tool, create a new access key.

## How long connections last

A connected app such as Claude or ChatGPT stays connected for up to 30 days after you approve it, and usually keeps itself signed in during that time without asking you. Depending on how it connected, the connection can end sooner if the app goes 14 days without using EveryWealth, or the app may ask you to sign in again before then. When a connection ends, the app asks you to approve it again.

An access key lasts 30 days unless you choose 90 days when you create it. When a key expires, create a new one.

## When connections end automatically

To protect your data, EveryWealth ends your connections and access keys automatically when:

* You reset or change your password.
* You turn off two-factor authentication, or set it up for the first time. To move to a new authenticator app, you turn two-factor authentication off and set it up again, so this ends your connections too.
* Support blocks access to your account, or your sign-in account is deleted.
* You leave, or are removed from, an organisation. Only the connections created in that organisation end.
* EveryWealth sees signs that a connected app's sign-in has been copied and used somewhere else. Only that connection ends.

Reconnect the apps you still use afterwards.

## Download links from Claude or ChatGPT

When you ask a connected app for a document, or for a spreadsheet of your transactions or investments, it can give you a download link. The link opens the file without signing in to EveryWealth, so treat it like the file itself: don't forward it or paste it anywhere others can see it.

* A link works for 15 minutes. After that, ask the app for a new one.
* It only opens while you can still open the file in EveryWealth and the connection is still active. If you revoke the connection, or lose access to the file, the link stops working straight away.
* Governance documents need both permission to download and permission to use Governance with assistants.
* Spreadsheets made for a link are deleted within a day.

## After the October 2026 update

Connections and access keys created before this update no longer work. Reconnect Claude or ChatGPT once, and create new access keys for any scripts or tools.
